Images On A Green Umbrella

I spend as much time as possible sitting on my porch observing the wild life that goes on in my backyard. It is usually a peaceful time with the trilling of wrens and the soft gurgles of the doves. Sometimes my neighbor plunks happy tunes on his guitar. The only thing that will drive me back in the house is the sound of leaf blowers close by, or more often, the heat. The large umbrella keeps the sun off, but in the afternoon sitting under it is like being in an oven.

Once in a while, if I look up, reality is obscured.

Born and raised in Central Texas. Spending time outside brings me joy and I love to share my observations. I also belong to two writing groups and enjoy researching my ancestors. I find people interesting, but Nature keeps me sane.

  1. what lovely puctures and words to go wuth these. I also love my morning time in my screened-in patio…watching the many birds plucking seed, contemplating where to build their nest, and then the butterflies. I find a sweet humor watching a hummingbird chase away the wrens & finches. So much to enjoy🦋

  2. I love the images you captured in your musing. What we see but often overlook; what is happening around us aside from our thoughts which can be quite captivating given these days of worldwide angst and anxiety. I’m going outside this morning to sit as this body and mosquitoes permit. While healing and attending to medication regimes after an ACDF surgery I’ve been unable to connect with nature I miss it all. Thanks for the inspiration Betty.

  3. Love the umbrella perspective, Betty. I just had a peaceful visit with a friend in her backyard garden and realized as I relaxed, that I don’t do this often enough. I am also avoiding leaf blowers. Quiet (except for the sounds of nature) is hard to find in the city.

  4. I too consider the anoles to be friends, brave and curious as they are …

our yard is uncharacteristically green from all the rain recently … even the tomatoes are making a comeback … but I can’t help but wonder when the hairdryer heat will get turned back on

  5. I love shadow visions you captured. Good reminder: Keep looking up. Your piece reminds me I don’t sit down and observe outside, I am walking around doing stuff instead. I should just go ahead with the insect repellent and sit in the shade.

    1. Thank you for your kind words! I so enjoy my back porch, but don’t always have my camera with me. Was lucky to catch images of the cicadas and lizard because they didn’t stay up there long.
